What is the service life of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles.

Lithium batteries in electric vehicles generally have a lifespan of 3-5 years. The lithium batteries seen on the market now have an approximate charge and discharge frequency of around 1000 times. If they are charged every 2-3 days, then they will be used for 3-5 years without any problem. However, it should also be noted that the lifespan of lithium batteries is actually related to many factors, such as the frequency of electric vehicle use, driving habits of drivers, and vehicle maintenance.


The common lithium batteries on the market today are divided into three different types: ternary lithium batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries, and lithium titanate batteries, with the mainstream being ternary lithium batteries. However, by comparison, the safety performance of lithium phosphate batteries is the highest, and in addition, the service life of lithium phosphate batteries is longer than that of ternary lithium batteries. Generally speaking, as long as lithium phosphate batteries are carefully maintained and used correctly, 5-7 years of use is no problem.


Lithium batteries are made by using a lithium metal and lithium alloy as the negative electrode material of the battery, and then adding a non electrolyte solution. This type of lithium battery has relatively reactive chemicals, so its stability is not very good. If the usage method is incorrect or used in high temperature environments, it may lead to spontaneous combustion or even explosion of lithium batteries.


When charging lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles, it is important to note that the charging time should not be too long. Generally, charging for 8-10 hours is more suitable, and the maximum time should not exceed 12 hours. Another thing is that when charging, it is necessary to use a matching charger and cannot mix chargers of different specifications, otherwise it will cause damage to the battery.
