How to choose an energy storage battery.

Nowadays, with the increase in electricity prices caused by the energy crisis and the decrease in profits caused by the adjustment of photovoltaic power generation subsidies, more and more households are choosing to install energy storage systems. As the foundation of energy storage systems, how to choose a suitable battery has become a concern for many users.



There are many types of energy storage batteries in the market, and each type of battery has differences in capacity, lifespan, safety, and price. Different household load conditions, usage environments, application scenarios, and other factors can also affect the selection of batteries.



At present, mainstream household energy storage batteries can be divided into two categories: lithium batteries and lead-acid batteries. Lithium batteries occupy the vast majority of the market, while lead-acid batteries are gradually fading out of the historical stage.



Lithium batteries mainly include lithium iron phosphate, ternary lithium, and lithium titanate. Lithium iron phosphate batteries account for over 90% of the total household lithium storage batteries. They have a high energy density of about 160Wh/kg, a cycle life of up to 6000 to 8000 cycles, stable structure, low safety hazards, and are widely popular among the public; Compared with lithium iron phosphate batteries, ternary lithium batteries have a higher energy density, exceeding 200Wh/kg, and a higher power density. However, their structure is relatively unstable and prone to thermal runaway. They only have about 2000 cycles, making them more expensive; Lithium titanate battery is a high-performance lithium battery with an energy density between ternary lithium and lithium iron phosphate. It has a stable structure, lower safety hazards, and can be cycled up to 15000 to 20000 times. However, the cost is high and the price is very expensive.



Lead acid batteries are also divided into traditional lead acid batteries and colloidal batteries. Traditional lead-acid batteries have the lowest cost and the cheapest price, but their energy density is very low, only 30-60Wh/kg, and their cycle life is only 200-300 times, and there are also certain safety hazards; Compared to traditional lead-acid batteries, colloidal batteries have a significant improvement in energy density, reaching approximately 100Wh/kg, with a cycle life of 800-1500 cycles, and are also safer to use.



Overall, if households need to install long-term energy storage systems, lithium iron phosphate batteries and colloidal batteries are better choices. Lithium iron phosphate batteries are more expensive than colloidal batteries, but their cycle life can reach over 10 years, resulting in lower overall usage costs; If households are more sensitive to price, gel batteries are also a good choice. Their price is 20-30% lower than lithium batteries, and their performance is much stronger than traditional lead-acid batteries, which can meet the needs of most households; For customers who only need short-term use, traditional lead-acid batteries can be considered. Due to frequent reports of thermal runaway accidents, ternary lithium batteries have gradually faded out of the household storage field, while lithium titanate batteries are expensive and generally not considered except for special application scenarios.
